Today’s run was great. I finally feel like I’m on the right path for training (9 weeks left and 6 miles was easy). Also, being Sunday and all, I decided to take a mental health day from watching the clock and hit up iPod church while running.
What, you may ask, is iPod church? The most glorious freaking way to listen to what the good Lord has to say. I can only listen to people talking while I run. Occasionally I’ll pick a Sunday to hit the pavement, give CarTalk a break, and listen time constraint free to whatever church is broadcasting on the radio at the time (which is typically too conservative for my tastes, but diversity does a body good.). Good run + good pep talk = damn good Sunday so far.
I’ve tried to explain how great this is to someone at the church I regularly attend, and they weren’t buying it. I think the word they were thinking was “heathen.”
They must not run. If they do, it’s probably on a treadmill.
I hope everyone can find something they love to listen to that makes them think–whether it is music, a book, a speaker, or silence–and take some time to ignore the clock and enjoy.
