After a dismal* run on Saturday, I came home to an interesting Facebook message from a friend: want to do a sprint triathlon with me?
My standard answer is typically hell to the no. I have zero desire to swim. The more I mull over the idea, the more I keep thinking why not? I need a new challenge. I have until August to train on the swimming part. Here is a pic of beautiful Huntington Lake, in all it’s freezing cold, fighter plane at the bottom glory.
Here are some of my hesitations. If you are an avid swim/run/biker, I’d love your opinion on if these are valid.
1. I can rent a wet suit, right? I’m cold just thinking about it, and I’m too cheap to buy one for a whim.
2. Will people make fun of my piece of crap, $35 Craigslist wonder of a bike with the puppy basket on the front?
3. Ugh. Swimming. I don’t know anything about etiquette at the gym for lap swimming, and I’m afraid of being THAT girl.
Ok, so it’s only 3 hesitations. I’m sure I’ll think of more.
On the running side, I’m helping a friend raise $$ for her team in training for making running headbands out of this:
I’ll post the results on the flip side.
*Ok, not dismal, but cutting a 11 mile run down to a 9.7 mile run after a surprise asthma attack is disappointing. Lesson learned–even if it as been over a year since your last attack while running, don’t be lazy. Bring the inhaler.
Do you have any triathlon experiences? Advice? Warnings? High fives?
