Happy National Running Day!!!

I kicked it off with a sunrise 4.5 mile date with my girl Sarah. Sadly, we were missing the 3rd of our group, but anyone who works in the ER until after midnight ALWAYS gets a pass for a 5 am run.

Other exciting news: the puppy got her first summer haircut. What a good little poser!

Because It’s Juuuuuune! June! June! June!

June is busting out all over!

Who could forget the utter joy of Carousel? It’s June! In Maine! (And let us delicately ignore the themes of domestic violence. I hate myself for agreeing with Richard Rodgers–it’s my favorite R&H musical too.)

This enforce runs through my head every June. It’s a really exciting month for me–it starts the 2 month hiatus from my 8-5 job (aka, kicks off ladies who lunch season.)

First, a recap of last month.

The good great stuff of May:

1. Fabulous and fun time running a half marathon with my runner girls.
2. Lots of spin subbing and few great playlists under my belt.
3. I GOT MY OWN CLASS!!! Every Saturday at 7:00 head out to the gym and I’ll kick your butt (or at least make you sweat (which auto correct just listed as swear–lol).
4. We painted the house!!! Old color on the right, new dark blue gray on the left. It looks divine.

Onto June goals.
1. More strength training. I went to an ab focused boot camp this am, and am appalled how far I’ve fallen. Run for 13ish miles? Sure. Two hours of spin? Bring it on. One minute of side plank dips or v-ups? OMG. Torture.
2. Finish getting my paperwork filed, and get some business cards with 100% correct info. Feel appropriately lame until I do.
3. Clean out my closet. There are some serious de-cluttering Goodwill trips in my future.
4. 60 minutes of yoga per week. Whether it’s an hour long class or three twenty minute sessions, I need to get to it!
5. Make one spinning playlist a week.
6. Participate and kick ass on this plank challenge.

7. Keep up with blogging!
8. Do something social at least 2x per week AFTER 7 am. The majority of my social life currently happens early.
9. Eat lots of green food. Eat lots of real food.

That’s all to kick off week one of summer vacation–a very, very hot kickoff to summer. Tomorrow this one will get shorn:

Hope I Don’t Regret This.

I skipped a cool 55 degree run through my hood (pictured below on the puppy’s walk) for a hot, sultry 72 degree super fast (aka rushed) lunch run. I hope it doesn’t suck–and if it does, I learned my lesson.

Was playing around online really that fun this morning?

Yup. The coffee was delicious too.

So. Much. Squealing.

The girl who came for her dress last night squealed. Squeaked. Jumped up and down. Cried.

Knowing my work can make someone THAT happy is so gratifying.

I’ll post a pic of her in it when I do the final fitting in May (yes, May. This one is on the ball .)

We went out for a celebratory bike ride afterwards. Check out who got to ride up front!

It’s Almost Garden Time!

Or is it here? Last Sunday was a working in the yard/garden extravaganza.

We’ve dedicated our 3 new garden beds to follow the Square Foot Gardening method outlined by Mel Bartholomew in his book.

So the husband built us some 4′ x 4′ boxes and filled the bottom with a mix of our home-grown compost, chicken manure, and straw:

Mix together 5 kinds of compost (here are 2):

Peat moss:

And vermiculite (not perilite!!!!):

Mix it up on a tarp:

And fill up your beds:

This creates a breathable, well drained soil that holds moisture so we can water less. There is a lot of info out there on sure foot gardening–check it out, or follow me here as we follow The Square Foot Gardener book.

As for the puppy–she couldn’t wait to get inside to relax. Can’t blame her–shoveling dirt and working in the yard is exhausting.

Spring is A-Knocking

This weekend certainly feels like it!

A high of 70 means the main door is open. Guess who’s happy about that:

Check out the background. She also likes to roll in the dry grass and shake it off inside. I have swept the floor twice today–I’m just going to wave the white flag on this one.

On my run this am, it was too hot to wear capris and a long sleeved shirt–I’m glad it was a short 4 miles. A HARD 4 miles. I’m not quite sure if I’m sleeping badly/getting sick/whatever, but my legs have felt heavy lately. I hope I can break through whatever wall is holding me back.

One spring bride came by today–pictures to come.

The most befuddling thing about the weather? My apricot tree is blossoming:

What’s Shakin’, Bacon?

Last week the vet diagnosed her with ringworm and gave us an anti-fungal shampoo for her. So after I get home from the gym, the little one gets a bath and gives me this look the whole time. Poor thing has to sit with that shampoo on her for 15 minutes.

The redeeming part? The post bath victory walk. No matter how much I piss her off by making her sit in the tub, she still goes crazy when she sees one of us reach for that leash. A super energetic walk around the neighborhood, come home to a treat, and then an afternoon of laziness.

Having a dog is so awesome. Who doesn’t love someone who goes ape every time you come home, even if you’ve only run out to get the mail? I wish I had known that sooner in life.
